‘Dear Mum’
A high-profile Eve Appeal theatre event involving Angelina Jolie, Dame Harriet Walter and Stephen Mangan
Every day in the UK, 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer.
Within 5 years, 21 of them – almost 40% – will die.
But numbers in a statistic tell us nothing of their stories. So Dear Mum will.
The son who lost his mum too soon, because she was diagnosed too late – what are the things he wished he’d told her? The mum who never was, because preventative surgery robbed her of the chance – what would she say to the child she’ll never meet? The mum who won’t see her kids grow up, because treatment couldn’t save her – what does she need her daughters to know?
For one night only, Dear Mum will see 10 fiercely intimate letters written by those affected by cancer read by The Eve Appeal’s celebrity supporters. They will tell stories of lives cherished, lives lost, lives that never happened.
At once heart-breaking and humorous, illuminating and entertaining, Dear Mum will shine a light on the most affecting corners of grief, all the while projecting hope for a brighter future for women. Dear Mum will help The Eve Appeal raise crucial funds for awareness and research into the five gynaecological cancers — so that in years to come, fewer families will have stories to tell.
